My Toothpicks

2/4/09
11:37 am
I have a new vice
Toothpicks
They taste like orange
or sometimes mint
depending on the day
But no matter the flavor
they always keep me entertained
"You really are southern, aren't you?"
someone asks me
with a hint of disdain
souring the tip of their tongue
And I cringe
Because this North Eastern world
does not understand
the pride that I take in the words
"The South"
But I thank them for the compliment
Because, honestly
I would rather them think me a hick
than fit in to their New England
liberal-as-fuck
stereotype anyway

On Jen Wilda

1/23/09
10:54 am
In Physics Class
The moment of realization
can be a moment of personal glory
or one of immense shame
For what can be more embarrassing
than finally giving in
and trying
what someone has
all along
been telling you to try
And lo and behold!
It works
So you brace yourself
You wait for the impact
You know the one
But they just look at you
and smile
and have the humility
to say "congratulations"
instead of "I told you so"

Lament of a Geek

1/22/09
11:22 am
In Physics Class
So there's a girl
Well, sort of a girl
At least
she thinks like a girl
some of the time
but she looks like a boy
most of the time
I hate her piercing
but I love her face
I hate her piercing
because I love her face
We geek out together
over trivial things
like Ender's Game
and X-men
But
she had to ask me today
"What are Lycans?"
What a shame.
